Miss Representation - A Sundance Film For All To See

Below please find information about a powerful new film – Miss Representation.  It has won a number of awards at the film festivals, but more importantly, it has a strong message about how women present themselves and how the media impacts the public image of women.  Check out the video!  The full film will broadcast on the OWN Network Thursday, October 20th at 8:00 MST.  The filmmakers are encouraging women to host house parties to show the film.  I am going to host a screening party.  How about you?!?!  Anne

Women's Day at the Capital

GOVERNOR AND FIRST LADY HOST SECOND ANNUAL “WOMEN’S DAY AT THE CAPITOL”

(BOISE) – Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter and First Lady Lori Otter invite Idahoans to the second annual Women’s Day at the Capitol on Thursday, October 6th.

Similar to Governor Otter’s Capital for a Day events, Women’s Day at the Capitol provides Idahoans the opportunity to have their questions answered personally and directly by Governor Otter and members of his administration. The event is in keeping with Governor Otter’s commitment to making State government more accessible to the people of Idaho.

The Governor and First Lady will be joined by State Controller Donna Jones and other women in positions of leadership in Idaho State government to answer questions about public policy. Lieutenant Governor Brad Little also will attend.

The open forum-style meeting is scheduled from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Idaho Capitol in the Garden Level’s west wing legislative auditorium. It is free and open to the public, and citizens are encouraged to attend.

“Since Idaho’s territorial days, women have shaped and changed our state and our nation for the better, playing defining roles in women’s suffrage, the design of our State seal, in politics and all elements of civic activity,” Governor Otter said.  “Women in our Idaho family continue to make our state the best place in America to live. This special day honors them by focusing on their important roles in our government, our communities, and our lives.”

The Governor will welcome KBOI-TV anchor Natalie Hurst as master of ceremonies for the event.

A free tour of the refurbished Capitol will take place at 1:30 p.m. and reservations for the tour are not required. Displays of Idaho women in history from the Idaho State Historical Society also will be on display.
